Guitar Building Course

Have you ever wanted to build your own guitar?

Of course you have!

About The Course

Guitars are the most popular instruments on the planet!  No woodworking experience? No problem! Our beginner course is efficiently, custom-tailored to walk you through the entire process, even if you’ve never even picked up a hammer.

All the tools and materials will be provided as you work directly alongside Grant Batson (co-founder of Batson Guitars) and other instructors who’ve done this more than a few times. The tools and processes employed will break each step down into manageable and enjoyable tasks to ensure your success.

At the end of day 6, you’ll walk away from this class with a great sounding, great feeling instrument of heirloom quality and the satisfaction of having built it yourself.

The “finish” will need to be done by yourself, at home, but we have developed a simple system which we will go over to ensure your success on that front, as well.

About The Guitar

For the Guitar Geek, you might be interested to know what EXACTLY you’ll be building.  It’s a Prima OM-sized steel string flat top (6-string), non-cutaway, with a 14-fret bolt-on-neck and scale length of 25.34” with a 1.75” nut width.

Materials used will be Sitka Spruce or Western Cedar for the tops and Walnut, Maple or Cherry back and sides.  The neck is a 3-piece laminated walnut/maple, and on occasion we have solid mahogany available.

Many of the species used (unless exotic) are from trees we have harvested, milled and dried ourselves.  Indian Ebony are used for the fretboard and bridge.

We’re located in the scenic woods of middle Tennessee, about an hour outside of Nashville, on 125 beautiful acres.

Covered in the tuition is accommodation in our Treehouse Village.

The course takes 6 days, so coming in Sunday evening is recommended, as we begin at 8 am on Monday.  You will be one of five students, with several instructors on hand.
